Village Ancients (2012), 20 mins

Village Ancients or ‘Les Anciens du Village’ looks at the rapidly evolving ways of rural life in the small village of Aragon, in the Languedoc-Roussillon area of France. Inspired by the works of Nicolas Philibert and Raymond Depardon, the film is made up of a series of vignettes about the village’s inhabitants, attempting to capture a sense of Aragon in the context of its past and present.

Imogen Putler is an anthropologist and English documentary filmmaker. This film is the result of an interest in the concepts of identity and the use of social memory and narrative in the construction of identity – specifically within the small village of Aragon where she grew up. It has become a homage to the rapidly changing village of her childhood and its much-loved inhabitants.
